Prehearse Privacy Policy

Operator and scope

Prehearse is operated by Umber Lab Limited ("Umber Lab", "we", "our", or "us"). This Privacy Policy applies to the Prehearse iOS application and the associated authentication, AI-processing, and support services made available in connection with the app.

What Prehearse does

Prehearse lets users privately practice difficult conversations with an AI role-play partner and receive AI-generated coaching feedback. It is a practice and preparation tool. It is not therapy, counseling, medical care, or crisis support, and it does not provide professional advice of any kind.

Data stored on your device

Your scenarios, rehearsal transcripts, and coaching debriefs are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Umber Lab does not operate a server-side database of your conversation history. Deleting the app deletes this local data.

Account data

Prehearse offers optional sign-in using an email verification code or Sign in with Apple, provided through Clerk, our authentication service provider. When you create an account, Clerk processes your email address, authentication identifiers, and session records on our behalf. We do not collect passwords.

AI processing of conversation text

When you rehearse, the text of your scenario and messages is transmitted over encrypted connections through Umber Lab's API service to our AI-model provider, OpenRouter, to generate the role-play responses, coaching feedback, and safety checks. This content is processed to return a response to you and is not used by Umber Lab to build advertising profiles.

Conversation text sent for AI processing is handled transiently for the purpose of generating a response. Umber Lab does not retain copies of your rehearsal content on its servers.

Safety processing

To protect users, message text may be evaluated by automated safety checks designed to detect signs of crisis or misuse of the service. If such signs are detected, the app displays crisis-support resources on your device. This processing happens as part of the same AI request flow described above.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Prehearse does not include advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking. We may process minimal technical information, such as rate-limiting metadata and aggregate request counts, that is necessary to operate and secure the API service.

Third-party services

Clerk provides authentication (email verification codes and Sign in with Apple) and processes account identifiers and session data. OpenRouter provides AI-model routing and processes conversation text to generate responses. Cloudflare provides the API infrastructure through which app requests are routed. Apple provides the platform services required to distribute and run the app.

Retention

Rehearsal content lives on your device and is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app. Account records held by our authentication provider are retained while your account remains active. Limited operational logs necessary for security and abuse prevention are retained for short periods.

Account and data deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the app via Settings, which removes your account records from our authentication provider. The web deletion page at https://umberlab.com/prehearse/account-delete provides instructions and support contact information for users who cannot access the app. Locally stored rehearsal data can be removed by deleting scenarios in the app or uninstalling the app.

Children's privacy

Prehearse is not intended for children under 13, and the nature of its content makes it most appropriate for adult users. If we become aware that personal data has been submitted in violation of this limitation, we may take reasonable steps to delete or restrict the affected account or information.

International processing

Because the app relies on third-party platforms and service providers, information may be processed in jurisdictions other than your country of residence, subject to the infrastructure and operational arrangements used by those providers and by Umber Lab Limited.

Policy updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect operational, legal, technical, or product changes.
